A research walk in Miasto Tkaczy (the City of Weavers)

Residents, officials and scientific experts jointly visited Miasto Tkaczy (the City of Weavers) Cultural Park to select yards that will be revitalized. They also talked about what should be done there. This is the next stage of the project "Creating Blooming Gardens in the City of Weavers", thanks to which the courtyards in the historic part of Zgierz will look like charming and attractive places. 

The joint research walk (28.05.2022 r.) served not only to select the places where revitalization will take place, but also to determine the manner in which the courtyards will be renovated and enriched - with greenery or elements of "small architecture". The ethnologists conducting the research handed out cards to the residents, which had to indicate the strengths and weaknesses of the places visited. A photographic documentation was also prepared. 

- We have collected material that allows us to indicate which spaces are aesthetic and good for residents, and which are not such and would require repair - says Anna Małaczyńska, the Mayor's Plenipotentiary for the Cultural Park. 

Researchers also handed out questionnaires to the residents of the City of Weavers participating in the walk, in which respondents were to comment on what activities in the backyards would be attractive for them and in which they would like to take part. The participants visited four previously selected courtyards at ul. Narutowicza - at numbers: 4.7, 11 and 13. It is these places that have the best chance of being ultimately qualified for revitalization. 

The research with the participation of backyard residents was conducted by a team of ethnologists at the University of Lodz under the supervision of Alicja Piotrowska, PhD. 

The Creation of Blooming Gardens in the City of Weavers is an undertaking as part of the Local Development Plan, developed for participation in the Local Development program, co-financed from the funds obtained by the Municipality of the City of Zgierz from the Norwegian Funds in the competition of the Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy.
