We create Flowering Gardens in Miasto Tkaczy (the City of Weavers)

The courtyards of Zgierz in Miasto Tkaczy (the City of Weavers) Cultural Park will have newly planted vegetation and decorations that are to create an attractive space for residents and visitors. Blooming Gardens in the City of Weavers is one of the projects implemented in Zgierz in accordance with the Local Development Plan. The residents of Narutowicza Street were invited to discuss the appearance of the new courtyards.

In a workshop meeting at Rembowskiego Street (May 19, 2022), residents of Narutowicza Street took part, a dozen or so people - all interested in participating in a conversation about the planned changes in the immediate vicinity of their homes. Consultations with inhabitants and officials were conducted by Dr. Alicja Piorkowska, an ethnologist from the University of Łódź, with the help of her students. The participants had the opportunity to exchange their observations about the yards, point to their most beautiful elements and those that need improvement.

- Our design team is trying to provide residents with a space that will connect them - said Anna Małaczyńska, Plenipotentiary of the Mayor of Zgierz for the City of Weavers Cultural Park. - These beautiful gardens are also to help in establishing neighborly relations, where the tenants will have a good time and at the same time will feel co-responsible for attractions created in the vicinity of their homes.

During the workshops, the participants were divided into discussion groups, which indicated the positive aspects of their space in the backyards (above all, a large number of new plantings) and exchanged things for improvement, e.g. the need to hide visible litter bins and provide a supply of water for the plants. Among the most desirable elements that can be made as part of the project, rainwater tanks, pergolas with climbing plants or proper lighting have been pointed out. The necessity to build a zone for young people and to involve the youngest in co-creating the Blooming Gardens was also emphasized.

Thanks to the funds obtained from the Local Development program, the courtyards in the City of Weavers are to become small leisure enclaves, visually and stylistically coherent with the historic character of the cultural park. Thanks to this, they will also become a tourist attraction. The next meeting with the residents, combined with a research walk and joint selection of specific yards where the Flowering Gardens will be built, is scheduled for May 28.

The creation of Blooming Gardens in the City of Weavers is an undertaking as part of the Local Development Plan, developed for participation in the Local Development program, co-financed from the funds obtained by the Municipality of the City of Zgierz from the Norwegian Funds in the competition of the Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy.
